The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce announces the award winners for their annual Business and Industry banquet, which will be held in September.
The Hillsboro Business of the Year is awarded to businesses that exert a positive economic and/or civic impact in the Hillsboro area. This year's honoree is Dollar General.
The Achievement Award considers the diverse ways a community can be improved or enhanced, including aesthetically, structurally, artistically, economically or historically, by the activities of one person, business or organization. This year's Achievement Award winners are Dr. John Mekala of Rehabedge and Hillsboro City Councilman Chris Sherer.
The Makeover Award recognizes those businesses that enhance their properties in such a way as to add to the aesthetic appeal of the community, thereby increasing pride in the community. This year's recipients are Hillsboro Area Hospital and Greg Holcomb, Country Financial.
Dennis Fenton of State Farm Insurance and past president of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce has been named this year's Chamber Member of the Year.
The annual Business and Industry Awards banquet will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Hillsboro Moose Lodge. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner provided by Milanos Catering and the awards program at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend this special evening. Tickets are $30 each and are available at the Chamber office, City Hall, The Journal-News and CNB Hillsboro Banking Center.
